Welcome to 5th Grade Band at SHIS!

Fifth grade is a very exciting year for Intermediate School students in music. It is the first chance that they will have to be a part of an instrumental ensemble. Band is open to all students in the 5th grade and the group rehearses during the school day.

Each student can choose from five instruments to play his or her first year. The options are flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone and bells. Once the basics are learned on one of these five instruments, the student may choose to stay with his or her instrument or to branch out to another related instrument, as he or she gets older.

We have already started exploring the band instruments with the current 4th graders this year. If your student is going to be in 5th grade next year, keep an eye out next fall for all the information you will need to help your child decide whether joining band is something he or she wants to do.

Thank you to all the parents who have supported their children in 5th grade band this year. We have one more concert on May 20th at 6:30 in the SHIS gymnasium, so come check it out.
