Where am I?
Media Center
Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year! This is my first year as a Library Media Specialist and I am excited to be starting the year. I taught third grade for seven years in Spring Hill before transferring to my new position. I am excited to be working with all the students and staff at SHIS this year.
During our weekly instruction, we will be focusing on information literacy skills and making connections to the core content areas and the classroom curriculum. Our goal is to become effective seekers and users of information. I love to integrate technology into my lessons so we will be involved in some fun webquests and project-based search activities.
Our library catalog and circulation system, Destiny, is up and running and the students LOVE using it. It is very graphical in nature and much more user friendly. So friendly in fact, you can access it from home by clicking on the link located at the bottom of the page!
Students may come in to the library to get new books as soon as they have finished reading their current checkouts. They do not need to wait until their regularly "scheduled" library day. The more they read, the better!
I will also be facilitating the KU reading program, and the William Allen White Book Award program. All of these programs are open to any interested students. Look for more information to come as we get each program started.
Volunteers are always welcomed in the library to assist students with finding books and to help reshelve. Feel free to give me a call if you'd be interested in helping. And don't hesitate to call if you have questions about any of our reading programs or activities.
