SHHS Winter Homecoming King & Queen Take the Spotlight

Congratulations to the SHHS Winter Court King Schuylar Duncan and Queen Melody Hanson! They were crowned in a ceremony at the SHHS basketball games on Friday, Feb. 1st. Following the games, a student dance was held. 

Candidates included Gwen Getz, Conner Jones, Lake Johnson and Melody Hanson, (back row) Sydnee Edwards, Sam Jesberg, Schuylar Duncan and Macy Carbajo. They are all representatives of the senior class with Johnson and Hanson representing senior athletics.
 
Gwen Getz has been in Madrigals all three years as well as on the Honor Roll for all three years.  She has been involved in volleyball, soccer, and basketball.  Getz was awarded First Team All State and League Soccer and achieved Honorable Mention for volleyball.  She plans to play volleyball for Johnson County Community College.

Conner Jones has been involved in basketball for two years and football for all four years, having played on Varsity for the past three years.  Jones was awarded Second Team All-League Linebacker and Second Team Tri-County Linebacker.  He has been on the Honor Roll for all three years.  Jones plans to either play football for Coffeyville Community College or attend the University of Kansas to obtain a degree in medicine.

Sydnee Edwards has played on varsity soccer for two years and has managed for both wrestling and football.  She has been on the Honor Roll and is a member of LINKS.  Edwards plans to attend Johnson County Community College for two years before transferring to the University of Kansas School of Medicine for a degree in pediatric nursing.

Sam Jesberg is a member of the National Honor Society and has been on the A Honor Roll for all three years.  He is a Kansas Honor Scholar and a member of Natural Helpers and Volunteer Club.  Jesberg has been involved in football, baseball, track, and basketball.  He plans to pursue a degree in drafting and design at the University of Central Missouri.

Schuylar Duncan is a member of the National Honor Society and has been on the A Honor Roll for all three years.  He is a Kansas Honor Scholar, a member of Natural Helpers and Volunteer Club and is a LINKS leader.  Duncan has been involved in football, wrestling and tennis and is undecided about his future college plan.

Macy Carbajo is President of Student Council and a member of the National Honor Society, LINKS, Madrigals, Volunteer Club, and FCA.  She is a Natural Helpers leader and has been on the A Honor Roll for all three years.  Carbajo was involved in the school musicals all four years and has been active in cross country, volleyball, basketball, track, and softball.  She plans to attend Grandview University where she will run cross country and track and pursue a degree in Physical Education.

The final candidates, Melody Hanson and Lake Johnson, were selected to represent winter sports activities and were voted on by those involved in winter sports this year.

Lake Johnson has been on the Honor Roll for all three years and has been involved in Natural Helpers.  He has played football, basketball and baseball for all four years and plans to play baseball for Baker University while pursuing an engineering degree.

Melody Hanson has been on the A Honor Roll for all four years and a member of the National Honor Society both her junior and senior years.  She is involved in Natural Helpers, Student Council and FHA and was awarded Second Team All-League for volleyball both her junior and senior years.  She lettered in volleyball all four years, basketball for three years, and softball for one year.  Hanson plans to play volleyball for Mid-America Nazarene University while majoring in physical therapy.
