Spring Hill High School's FCCLA Named 2013 Hunger Hero School Winner
October 18, 2012

Spring Hill High School's FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) participated in an event put on by K-State Olathe called Swipe out Hunger. This event's goal is to raise as many quarters as possible to help feed hungry children in the Horn of Africa. Every quarter raised makes one meal for a hungry child.
The group also participated in the Swipe out Hungry packing event where they packed meals for the children. Based on this event, one group is rewarded the Hunger Hero School Winner, and Spring Hill High School FCCLA is officially the 2013 Hunger Hero School Winner! The Hunger Hero School Winner is given to one school team that packaged the most food meals in combination of raising monies to support these meals.
This year, the SHHS team packaged 1,944 meals at the event and raised $643.38 in the Quarter Challenge (equates to 2573.52 meals). In total, the school's 16 volunteers contributed 32 volunteer hours at the food packaging event on October 13th and provided 4517.52 meals to those starving in the Horn of Africa.
