K.C. Royals Top Pick Bubba Starling Outlines Keys to Success

Third graders at Spring Hill Intermediate School were treated with a special guest who had an important message about hard work. Bubba Starling, first round draft pick for the Kansas City Royals in 2011, spoke to the students and encouraged them to work hard in school and at everything that they do.
Starling was invited to speak to the group by his sister Jamie Starling, a third grade teacher at SHIS. First, students watched a brief video about his sports career, and learned that it required a strong work ethic to become a professional athlete. He talked about how his parents always stressed the importance of school work, including restricting him from sports if he didn’t complete his homework. In addition, he took time to answer questions from the students.
Starling is in town this week to be honored as an Appalachian League All-Star for his play during his first professional season.
