New Elementary Boundaries
New Elementary School Boundaries Beginning in the 2013-14 School Year
The Spring Hill Board of Education took action at its November 12, 2012, meeting, and voted to approve Scenario 4, as its final plan for new boundaries. The new elementary school boundary lines will go into effect for the 2013-14 school year, which coincides with the opening of Wolf Creek Elementary School. The vote followed multiple public meetings and the review of comments from stakeholders.
The process of redrawing the elementary school boundary lines started during the summer, as board members met with the district’s demographer and examined building capacities. Three scenarios were developed and made available for consideration by families and the public at several open meetings as well as on the district’s web site. All comments received have been posted on the web site and are available for review. This input was used to create Scenario 4, which was available for review at the board’s Oct. 9th meeting and online. Following an open comment period, Spring Hill Board of Education members agreed to consider it for a final vote. On Nov. 12th, board members heard from representatives of Applebus about busing strategies before taking a final vote on the boundary lines and voting to approve the adoption of Scenario 4.
As total enrollment continues to increase by 4-5 percent annually, the 2011 bond issue included funds to address capacity issues. Beginning in the 2013-14 school year, the new Wolf Creek Elementary School will serve students in grades K-5. Spring Hill Elementary School will return to a preschool through grade 5 facility, and the current Intermediate School building will be repurposed to serve as part of Spring Hill Middle School to primarily serve 6th graders. This alleviates capacity issues at all of the district's elementary schools as well as Spring Hill Middle School.
