RADIOS in the 40s |
|
| The radio was a very big
thing for families in the 40s. It provided the news, music, and
entertainment. Just like television today. Almost every night the family would sit around
the radio and learn more about what was happening in the war.
Since there was no television, people would make plans to listen to
musical shows, dramas, soap operas, mysteries, comedies, quiz shows, and
sports. Some of the famous radio shows mentioned by the people we
interviewed were, Abbott and Costello, Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Tom Mix, The
Lone Ranger, Hop-a-long Cassidy, and The Shadow. Radio was really a
lifeline for many during the war. It provided them with important
news and entertainment also. Thank you Mrs. Rodgers for allowing us to take pictures of your World War II era radios. |
| Future plans for this page are to add audio clips from some of the old radio programs that the people we interviewed mentioned. So, keep checking back with us! |
