Music During World War II |
| At the beginning of the 1940s, the Big Band
sound was very popular. Some of the most famous bands that
were mentioned in our interviews were, Glenn Miller, Tommy and
Jimmy Dorsey, Glen Gray and Charlie Spivak. Music from the
Andrew Sisters, Stan Kenton, Spike Jones, Bing Crosby, Frank
Sinatra, and Perry Como was also popular. Famous black musicians and
singers were Charlie Parker, Dizzie Gillespie, Billy Holiday,
Ella Fitzgerald, and Duke Ellington. The Jitterbug became one
of the most popular dances and grew out of the big band "swing"
sound. |
